With the release of the 3.0 update just hours away now more and more rumors are starting to pop up about whats in store for the new firmware. The most recent rumor is that Apple is going to add a ‘premium’ section in the AppStore allowing more 3rd party programs to sell there applications at a higher price. This premium section is likely going to focus on games and applications from commercial titles with prices starting at $20.00 USD and up. While this is not confirmed it makes sense. Independent developers have been slashing prices to keep up with competition and the fragile economy. Three weeks ago Silicon Valley Insider analyzed prices of the top 100 paid apps in the AppStore and their records showed an average price drop of 19% over the previous two months. If Apple released a premium section this could help them keep their already booming business afloat.

The state has long struck deals with Apple to provide laptops for many of its students, and according to a report by the Associated Press, it’s in negotiations with Apple to expand the deal this year, putting a MacBook on the desk of every public school student from grades 7 to 12. The 100,000 laptops would run to a cost of roughly $242 per computer per year, or an annual total of close to $25 million.

The state’s program already covers 37,000 middle schools and about 10,000 teachers. Best of all, the money being used to purchase the macs are not from the taxpayers: the money is from existing resources.

The video features SXSW with DiggNation.  Hosts Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose talk about the 3.0 updates that we hope will be announced tomorrow. The main things Rose talks about is copy and paste and how it will work. He also says again that this update will bring the iPhone up to speed with Palm Pre users. The crowd seemed to be a tad inebriated which erupted in screaming – you would think you were at a rock concert.

Jailbroken users who are often use Boxee probably already downloaded this application a while back through Cydia. This application, which is now available in the AppStore for the price of (FREE!) works just like the Cydia version. You connect via WiFi and tap your finger on the cute Boxee logo and move it around to navigate in that direction on screen. If you don’t like this form of navigation don’t worry- there is a button mode. The button mode is pretty much self explanatory and works like your Apple remote. You  can also input text when searching for a video which is a nice feature.
